Marriott has entered the safari industry with the opening of the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in Kenya, marking its first venture into safari accommodations.
The hotel chain currently manages over 120 establishments across the African continent but has never done a safari lodge before.
The new resort overlooks the banks of the River Talek, featuring 20 individual tents with a private terrace that looks over the river.
Among them is a presidential canvas-topped pavilion and two interconnecting canopied suites for families.
In addition, guests can enjoy several dining options, including a lounge bar, a spa, and an outdoor terrace with fire pits.
The JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge provides guests with the opportunity to observe the “Big 5” of Masai Mara, namely lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinoceroses, and elephants.
The reserve also features an annual wildebeest migration, with 10 million animals travelling nearly 2,000 miles from the Serengeti in Tanzania between June and September.
Reservations are now available at the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge.
The all-inclusive board basis is priced at approximately $1,450 per person per night, but there is no clarity on the cost of award stays per night as points bookings are not available.
UCT will keep you informed if Marriott Bonvoy points are bookable for tents which would be an awesome opportunity for Marriott loyalists.
