The newly renovated Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York has officially opened its doors, providing a new home to both American Airlines and British Airways.
This marks the first phase of JFK’s Vision Plan and will greatly benefit trans-Atlantic Oneworld flyers.
One of the key features of the reimagined terminal is the single check-in area, designed to provide a seamless experience for premium flyers.
Once they have passed through security, they will be greeted with an additional 130,000 square feet of space.
The three new lounges, namely the Chelsea Lounge and the Soho Lounge, will provide first-class amenities for premium and elite flyers from both airlines.
The Chelsea Lounge is exclusively for first-class British Airways and Flagship First American flyers, while the Soho Lounge will welcome flyers eligible to visit the Chelsea lounge, as well as British Airways Executive Club Gold elites and American AAdvantage Executive Platinum and Platinum Pro elites.
These lounges will offer a range of services including food and drink, showers, and rest areas.
In addition to the new lounges, Terminal 8 now boasts five new widebody gates and four widebody parking positions.
The upgraded luggage handling system will ensure the smooth loading and unloading of trans-Atlantic flights.
With the opening of Terminal 8, JFK is poised to become the main terminal for all Oneworld operations.
British Airways’ sister carrier, Iberia, is expected to move to the terminal shortly, followed by Japan Air Lines by May 2023.
