After a significant hiatus, the Sydney hotel market is crammed with new luxury openings.
The Capella Sydney will be one of the most luxurious options offered and will arguably be the city’s new luxury benchmark.
The hotel is located in the Department of Education building in Sydney’s Sandstone Precinct.
Originally designed by architect George McRae in the early 1900s, the building has been restored by Pontiac Land in collaboration with Make Architects.
Capella Sydney is the first Australian property in the Capella Hotels and Resorts portfolio.
The hotel includes 192 guestrooms and suites, anchored by three ground-level food and beverage outlets: Aperture, Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar.
These publicly accessible hospitality spaces are filled with commissioned and collected artworks, sophisticated furnishings and intriguing objet d’art, all within footsteps of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and recently unveiled Quay Quarter Lanes precinct.
The guestrooms and suites are replete with deluxe textiles, standalone tubs, custom Italian Frette linen and exclusive Haeckels amenities.
With suites starting from 495 square feet, the Deluxe, Premier and Skyline rooms offer abundant space and natural light, while the 2,530-square-foot Capella Suite on the ninth is positively huge.
The Living Room, a signature space of all Capella properties, provides a gathering place where guests can partake in daily Capella Rituals and immerse themselves in local culture amid a collection of artifacts.
On Level Six, guests are invited to indulge in treatments at Auriga Spa, or swim in the 66-foot heated indoor pool.
UCT looks forward to reviewing the new property soon.
